These fine antique Chinese Export silver (CES) candlesticks have been modelled in the form of a fire breathing dragon onto a circular domed, spreading foot. The column of each candlestick is embellished with embossed and chased decoration replicating the details of the dragon’s features, including the scales and fire breath. Each dragon’s body is further ornamented with two applied protruding arms and legs, in addition to a shaped beard. The plain cylindrical capitals are fitted with detachable push fit sconces. These dragon candlesticks have circular bases embellished with chased decoration depicting iconic oriental cloud motifs on a matte background. The bases are not weighted and allow access to the screw fitments to the underside; these fittings allow the dragon columns to stand securely in situ. The hallmarks to the base of each impressive candlestick includes. Maker’s mark : WH (Wang Hing & Company). Silver quality/purity mark : 90 (90 standard, 900/1000). These antique Chinese dragon candlesticks are a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent presentation condition. The embossed and chased decoration is very sharp.
