The hat stand has a beautiful green backround and is covered in dragons flying among clouds over waves of water. Considerable work by a Chinese artisan is evident in the beautiful hat stand. There are five horned dragons with long, curving bodies of blue, pink, yellow and green. Clouds of yellow, pink, blue and white surround the 4-toed dragons. There are six cut outs in the porcelain with borders of gold. Waves of green and white water are at the bottom of the hat stand. There is a four character Chinese marking on the base along with two faint red markings that are not legible. Dragons are admired in Chinese culture and thought to rule the heavens. They are symbolic of power and strength. Dragons often appear in Chinese art and highly prized by collectors. The design and colors are quite similar to a Tongzhi dragon bowl that I have listed currently. The wood stand displays the hat stand beautifully and is substantial enough to support the weight. The square shaped wooden stand is marked “Made in Japan” on the bottom along with remants of an old paper tag. There is a round raised area for. Display in the center of the stand. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, repairs or damages to the vase. There are a few very minor spots of paint loss if you look closely. There could be minor surface scratches as expected from normal use. The inside of the vase is bright and clean with no stains or debris. The gold at the top and around the cuts outs is slightly worn. There is a spot on the top rim that I believe was made during production but it might be old wear or a tiny chip (see photos). There are normal characterists of old porcelain such as firing cracks (on the base). Overall, the hat stand is in excellent antique condition with bright and beautiful colors. There is no damage or repair to the carved wood base. It is in excellent vintage condition with normal expected wear such as surface scratches and rubs. The stain is lighter in a few places but the patina is lovely. Three nail heads are visible on the bottom. Weight: 2.9 pounds. Weight: 256.9 grams. Stand height: 1 1/2. Stand length & width: 5 3/4. Stand display diameter: 4 1/2. This stunning antique Chinese porcelain hat stand is truly exquisite and high quality. The hat stand and antique wooden stand would make a fine addition to a collection of Chinese art & antiques. It is one of my favorites among a large collection of Chinese hat stands.
