NESE SILVER FOOTED VASE, DRAGON/TIGER. CUM WO, HONG KONG C. This well ornamented Chinese vase is marked to the underside of the base with CW and Chinese character marks. This is the mark of t. The central area contains a three-dimensional traditional representation of waves, composed of disk-shaped elements. A figural dragons head surrounds the short stem, resting upon the waves below. The body of the vase depicts a tiger standing on the ground, looking up at the dragon. It is rare to find a depiction of a tiger on Chinese silver from this period. The tiger is one of the animals in the Chinese zodiac and this probably indicates that either the vase was made in the year of the tiger, which occurred in 1890 and 1902.
