Emperor Dragon 3 Silk Antique Framed Chinese Embroidered Fragments Embroidery
This listing is for the set of three framed embroidered fragments that you see in the photos. The professional running the sale showed me a folder wherein records of appraisals for the more valuable items in the sale were kept. According to the professional running the sale, this set of three embroidered fragments was appraised in 1992. According to the appraiser, the fragments are from circa 1875 and that they are Chinese. The professional also said that they knew the appraiser and that they were very good. I do not know how old they are. I would also guess that they are from the 19th century and it is obvious to me that they are Chinese. The frames are relatively modern. The figure in the center of the large fragment looks to me like it might be a Chinese Emperor or maybe some kind of court official. The figures in the two smaller pieces look like attendants to me. The fabric that the embroidery is on looks like silk. Many of the threads look like they are wrapped with gold. The frames appear to be wood. The large frame measures close to 25 by 31 ¾ inches. It measures close 1 ¾ inches high when it lies flat. It weighs close to 10 pounds 7 ounces. The area of the fabric exposed by the frame measures close to 20 by 27 inches. Each one of the two small frames measures close to 10 ¼ by 12 ¾ by 1 3/4 inches and weigh close to 2 pounds. The area of the fabric exposed by each small frame measures close to 7 ½ by 10 inches. The fragments are behind glass so there are reflections in my photos. Also, the camera has a tendency to overreact to the glare off of the glass. The lighting is uneven so I have taken photos from various angles. Some of the photos were taken outdoors in the shade while the rest were taken indoors. A couple of the photos were taken with a flash to highlight the gold. In my opinion, the actual pieces are somewhat more beautiful than many of the photos indicate. Especially, the threads that appear to be wrapped with gold. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The frames are generally in excellent sturdy condition. I have spotted a tiny amount of wear on some corners of the frames. The frames might benefit from a cleaning. The paper backing on all three pieces is fragile and damaged. I might damage it a little more when I pack them. A photo shows how the fabric is wrapped around some kind of board. It also shows how the hidden fabric has much stronger colors which tells me that the exposed fabric is somewhat faded. I wonder if they were previously in other frames. Some areas of the silk look like they might be very slightly soiled or discolored from age. A closeup shows how there is one area on a dragon where there are loose gold colored threads. One of the smaller attendant fragments has a couple of small holes. Otherwise, these pieces are in generally in very good condition and as shown. My photos should give you a good idea of their general condition. I guarantee these items to be as described and represented by the 35 photos after the general description. The photos are part of the description. Please look at all of them. Please know that the lighting in my photos is uneven and that there might be shadows or reflections. The colors on my monitor look close to but not exactly like the actual colors. Different monitors may show different colors. I often say that an item measures or weighs close to because in my opinion no measurements are exact and some things are difficult to measure. Often, I have a custom made box for larger items and that can result in a short delay. When I use packing peanuts, they are usually biodegradable. Sometimes, I recycle used boxes. 35 photos should load with this listing.
