We all have to eat.. Here is what we found on the web.. The various dragon robes worn in the Qing court sent signals about the rank and distinction of the wearer. Robes featuring the five-clawed dragon, called a long, could be worn by the emperor and his sons and selected court members of high distinction. Certain princes and lower nobles could wear a robe featuring the mang, or four-clawed dragon. And even lower ranking officials could wear a robe with three-clawed dragons. The presence of additional ornamentationsuch as an embroidered border picturing the sacred Mount Kunlun, in western China, which was believed to be the center of the universe, or images of the “twelve sacred symbols” the sun, moon, stars, dragon, pheasant, mountains, sacrificial cups, waterweed, grains of millet, flames, sacrificial axe, and the fu symbol, an emblem. Associated with the power of the emperorwas also used to signify the wearer’s place in societ. Beautiful lightweight Chinese silk fully hand embroidered and woven Five Claw Imperial Dragon Robe. Circa 1840, it has the most beautiful embroidery. With various subjects including the Imperial. Five Claw dragon throughout. In good vintage condition for it’s age with just some minor issues. Easily rectified like loose threads etc ad a bit of fraying along the bottom… Very early piece that we have been advised on good authority it is circa 1840. And is one of the earliest pieces of chinese textile we have listed. Beautiful item that has been hand embroidered and woven through out on blue silk. With the five claw dragon used throughout and the whole garment. Has been hand embroidered and woven, can you believe it. Open size with a total length of aprox 57 (145cms)..
