Important Antique 1700's Chinese Sculpted Green Stone Dragon Bi-Disk With Stand
Important Old Sculpted Dragon Bi-Disk With Stand. An exceptional and highly carved hard stone Eastern Chinese Bi disc! These bi discs or stone rings, were made by the people of eastern China as early as fifth millennium BC. This practice continued after 500BC and even through the last 2000 years, presumably to assist the spirit in the afterlife. This was made after the Shang period where these discs are usually more ornate, carved with dragons, snakes, fish, and used in ritual ceremonies. This special disc is highly detailed with three individually and distinctive stylized dragons/chi longs, chasing the illusion pearl, with cloud swirls and scrolls. One dragon shows fiery smoke coming out of his nostrils, as the pearl looms over his head! Each dragon has his own personality, facial expressions, and bodily features. The reverse has small raised circular bosses. The disc was originally bought an an estate sale in La Jolla, CA in the early 1980’s, after 1976 when China was open to tourists. There is not too much information on it as original owners passed on. It is not jade but celadon color very hard stone partially calcified. It has been left as is and not cleaned. Or at least and extraordinary example or copy from that era. A piece to enjoy, revere, and ponder upon! Every time I look at it I see new scrolls, etchings, expressive dragons! The dragons seem to be alive and move and swim among the clouds! Beautiful celadon green coloring. Approx 7″ diameter (6 7/8″).

This amazing vase was one of my late mother’s valuable oriental collection. It stands about 14 inches tall, and is very heavy. It looks like a couple of small chips have been repaired, with gold as they did in the ancient days in china, with items they treasured, but the chip or crack does not go through to the inside. The design is a pair of dragons fighting. It is a crackle glaze and has an engraved bronze ring round the base and neck. It is a stunning piece that i partly don’t want to let go of. It is marked on the base, with the ming chenghua seal, as anybody can see it is original as it speaks for itself. Overlooking a docks in Scotland, that was built by the earl of zetland as homes for the poor dockers in those days. In fact more than half of my items i have inherited from my late mum, and they have been in our family since the 1800s or earlier. Apart from these, it is a lifetime collection for me. There is also natural provenenance in many of my items. I grew up an only child from an old fashioned titled country home masonic and business family in somerset. My father was a sir and a master mason, and indeed was in the chair at his lodge for one year. My mum was a titled lady as his wife, and i as his daughter. Before i met my late husband by pure fate at an airport 15 years ago, i was just an ordinary wee village lassie, albeit it with my natural title of lady from mum and dad, and got my professional title of dr much later in life, due to writing and publishing 6 books, the first of which prince Charles agreed to write the foreword for me back in my 20s. My late husband who i met at age 40, was a titled royal laird (lord) in Scotland, even tho i did not know this for a while after meeting him, and he was worth tens of millions in land, properties and other assets and business investments. I loved him dearly and still do, even tho he passed 7 years ago, leaving me a young widow of 52, albeit technically still a titled lady, but practically penniless. That she had kept in storage for over 25 years since dad died. Also i ended up with my 3 outbuildings. Crammed full of all her smaller antiques and old ming and kangxi and imari chinese porcelain, antique glassware and silverware etc. Also i even have mountains of her vintage toiletries, beauty care items, and edp perfumes too. I have spent a lot of my own funds on antiques myself too, and the total of the contents of my wee house and outbuildings. Hopefully all the rest of my antiques. Will one day go to museums and art galleries for all to enjoy, as i have no children or living family, so it will all go to the national trust and the Masonic lodge. Since losing my beloved husband, i put my faith in my guardian angels out there, and my earth angels too, for all i need. If you would like to see the full extent of my premises and my stock, then do feel free to search for me by dr Elizabeth murray Scotland antiques & fine arts as this is my facebook business page, with lots of photos of all and everything , and of myself too. And even have go at mature modelling or plus size modelling, as i do have a very good face for my age. If anyone knows a good talent agent for multi talented people, then please do get in touch with me. If you wish to discuss any item or any other business with me, having looked at my facebook business page, then my contact number is 07393 827034. I cannot truthfully say this is a non smoking home as i do smoke the odd cigarella in an evening, but only in my sitting room and not in the rest of the house or outbuildings. I have only ever had one complaint about the aroma of smoke on an item, but nobody else seems to notice it. However, feel free to mention it to me if it bothers you. I also do have a stray cat in my home sometimes, but he goes in and out thru his cat door. And i feel sure you will be delighted with my items, but if there is any problem or complaint, please do feel free to contact me rather than leave me bad feedback, and i will do my best to make things right.
