ANTIQUE 20thC CHINESE EXPORT SOLID SILVER LARGE DRAGON BOX c. 1900
Antique 20th Century Chinese Export solid silver box, of rectangular form, the hinged cover decorated in repousse’ relief with dragons chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom on a matted ground, the centre applied with Chinese characters. Each side panel is decorated with different scenes depicting butterflies and chrysanthemums, butterflies and orchids, forest and deers, bamboo with birds and animals. The box is very rare, large and very well crafted, some of the details are parcel gilt to add importance. The box is unmarked, but has been acid tested and shows 900 grade silver, made in the early 1900’s. ANTIQUE 20thC CHINESE EXPORT SOLID SILVER LARGE DRAGON BOX c. ANTIQUE 20thC CHINESE EXPORT TU QING YUN SOLID SILVER DRAGON TEA SERVICE c. 1900
Antique early-20th Century Chinese Export solid silver five piece tea set on tray, comprising of teapot, sugar bowl, milk jug, waist bowl, sugar tongs and tray. Each spherical body is beautifully hammered surface decorated with bamboo leaves and cherry blossom, each piece rests on a decorative skirted foot and applied with an intricately modeled dragon handles and finials. All the dragons have five claws, symbol of Imperial power, round cartoches engraved with initials – WRL. The tray boarder decorated with battle scenes and center engraved with dragon chasing the pear of wisdom. All pieces Hallmarked with Chinese Export silver marks (acid tested shows a 900+ standard), Maker’s mark Tu Qing Yun, active in Jiujang, from 1895 until 1940. While this is not an often seen makers mark, it has become clear that it was a later branch of Tu Mao Xing, probably a son or other relative – a normal practice among manufacturing and retail silversmiths. It also seems reasonably clear that the control over style and quality that was exerted over artisan workshops by Tu Mao Xing continued as a form of central control that covered both retail entities. Tu Mao Xing, was active in Jijing, Jiangxi Province, from 1880 until 1930. The silversmith is considered one of best Chinese Export names please see A. Professor Von Ferscht correctly identified the mark and considers Tu Mao Xing one of the first silversmiths operating in Jijing and an authentic “master of dragon-making”. ANTIQUE 20thC CHINESE SOLID SILVER DRAGON COCKTAIL SHAKER & BEAKERS c. 1910
Antique 20th Century Chinese Export solid silver cocktail shaker, of tapering cylindrical form, beautifully applied with a dragons on matted ground, extraordinary quality of workmanship. The shaker has a domed detachable upper portion fitted with a plain cylindrical push fit cover and accompanied with eight beakers in the same style, shaker bears a vacant cartooch to one side. The base is Hallmarked Chinese Export silver 90 (900+ standard), Maker’s mark (unknown to me). Retailed by Wang Hing (WH), The piece dates to the 1910’s. Large Antique 20thC Chinese Terracotta Red Foo Dragon Jardiniere Planter Pot NR. Measuring 11″ tall by 16 ½” in diameter at the shoulder, this large antique Terracotta Jardinière Planter depicts Chinese Foo Dragons peeking in and out of clouds. This circa-1900 Terracotta Planter is an excellent quality with fine details. Along the top edge is a geometric border, and along the top edge is a Greek Key border. There are no cracks, chips or restorations, however the inside is soiled from years of being used as a planter.
