Up on offer here is this unique inimitable early Edwardian C-1910 arts & crafts sculptured brass depiction of a Chinese dragon adapted into a table standing lamp in the serpent style of Edgar Brandt; Rare handmade segmented Opaline milk glass shade with hand painted Chinese theme, very unique piece with all its original parts. “Outstanding original period piece in great condition”.. Weighing at just over 6.0 LB, and standing at 44 cm tall, it is substantial sculpture with fine level of detailing. Standing on a raised circular base with a decorative border, original brass cable exit grommet, and a fine wool mix green baize base covering to the underside. Four-staged chunky central shaft supporting the sculptured scaly depiction of the Chinese dragon with the characteristic camel head, tiger fangs, eagle claws, coy scales, stag horns, snake neck, and forked tail. Dragon is clutching a protective rubber cable conduit between its fangs. The three-core silk braided cabling runs from the base through the dragon torso and exits through its gaping mouth. The original brass B-22 bayonet fit bulb holder is suspended at the end of the three-core cable with a cable safety lock. The rare 1920s hand made segmented Opaline milk glass shade with the hand-painted Chinese theme is suspended at the bulb holder giving a very effective unique display. Lamp has been professionally restored at considerable cost. Professionally re-wired in period match three-core silk braided 75mm twist cable, earthed, tested and in perfect working order (for both UK & US homes). Lamp has its original 1920s MK three-round pin Bakelite plug with early cord grip system. Lamp also has its original 1920s Bakelite torpedo style inline rocker switch. FINE QUALITY STUNNING RARE EDWARDIAN CHINESE DRAGON CARVED LADIES CIGARETTE HOLDER. This is a very Beautiful Rare Edwardian Chinese Dragon Carved Ladies Cigarette Holder, i would estimate a date of circa 1910 making this holder over 100 years old. This rare cigarette holder is carved to half of the body with the most intricate detailing of a Chines Dragon, take a look at the photos you can even see the dragons eyes, he is beautiful, his scaled body wraps itself around the entire holder with t the most wonderful detailed claws, its breath taking, the other half of the holder has a smooth finish giving it a timeless elegance of the Edwardian period, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy Edwardian lady many years ago when times were so very different, this is 5 inches in length so would have been used at dinner parties, you can just picture the elegance of the time back in the Edwardian period, if this could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. The condition is nice with no damage to the carving. It is lovely condition. The cigarette holder began it’s prominence all the way back in the later 1700’s, as a way for leftover tobacco to be used. The tobacco would be wrapped into paper and would connect to a device to create this cigarette of discarded tobacco pieces. As with evening gloves, ladies’ cigarette holders are measured by four traditional formal standard lengths. Opera length, usually 16 to 20 inches/40 to 50 cm.
