This is an antique Chinese court robe from a local estate. We know very little about textiles, but believe that it dates from the 1800’s for a high-ranking member of the Imperial court. It is made entirely of hand sewn silk. It features wonderful hand stitched decoration, including floating Dragons among Clouds, flying Bats, and water Waves (see images). It has been in storage for many years, and has never been mounted or restored for display. It looks nice with strong color overall. There are MANY expected scattered signs of age, edge wear, small tears, loose stitching, missing buttons (one jeweled original button is present).
