33 Old Antique Chinese Turquoise Gems Inlays Dragon Figure Brass Sword Scabbard
Old Antique Chinese Turquoise Gems Inlays Dragon Figures Brass Sword & Scabbard. This stunning sword may date to the 1920’s, and may have been used as a parade sword because it’s fancy and beautiful. The handle and sheath are gold gilt brass, and have been beautifully shaped, with fine hammering marks, which are impressive. The gold gilt is mostly worn out, which is normal and expected. The applied dragon panels were all hand repousse work. The sword is also set with stones, which look like carnelian, but they could be glass. The top scabbard has turquoise stones band. From this band two gems are missing, which is an easy replacement. In addition there was an obvious replacement with a lapis lazuli bead (pics 3 and 6), and one turquoise bead has glue remains on it. The swords and the scabbard has some dings, scratches, the brass has some dark spots areas, and other possible flaws due to age. The blade has scratches and dings, it slides nicely, but somewhat roughly from the scabbard. The flaws mentioned are emphasized and normal for the age, and I’d consider them minor, but that’s my opinion. Or else item is in good condition. Please examine all pictures very carefully as they are essential part of the description. Pics 4,5,6 show one side, while pics 7,8,9 show the other side. Item is about 33.5″ long x 3.5″ for the handle at widest part, and weighs about 2.5lbs before packaging. My goal is to leave all buyers happy. Thank you and have a great day! The item “33 Old Antique Chinese Turquoise Gems Inlays Dragon Figure Brass Sword Scabbard” is in sale since Sunday, September 15, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Asian Antiques\China\Swords”. The seller is “gaia1751″ and is located in Winnetka, Illinois. This item can be shipped worldwide.

The Art Deco era saw a great deal of change not only in the art of jewelry making but in the world itself. New styles of speaking, acting, dressing, and living developed with the invention of new technology and ideologies, all of which affected the appearance of jewelry. Jewelry during the Art Deco era, or the Gatsby era, leaned towards flashy, with gorgeous large stones serving as the focal points of the pieces of jewelry. Modernity and style were the drivers in the jewelry world during the Art Deco era, as is evidenced by this lovely item of jewelry. 925 sterling silver, the bracelet features several turquoise stones. The flawless polishing of the turquoise is a beautiful example of the expertise of Chinese stone cutters, who were revered for their meticulous and detailed work with a variety of stones, including turquoise. Since the Victorian era, wealthy Europeans had been custom ordering jewelry from China as Chinese jewelers were considered some of the best in the world. The process of ordering, making and receiving a Chinese export piece could take months at a time, so pieces like this bracelet were very expensive and highly desirable. The turquoise stones in this lovely dragon bracelet are opaque blues and greens. The reason for the difference in the hues is due to the age of the stones, as they will green with time. These lovely stones are inlaid into the eyes and heads of the dragon motifs, dding a lovely handmade touch to this stunning bracelet. The cool silver tones of the silver is gorgeous against the cool blue and green hues of the stones, and every portion of this lovely bracelet serves to bring out the best in the other. This gorgeous bracelet is composed of. 925 sterling silver and is incredibly heavy in metal value. This bracelet weights 415.3 grams, and is an incredible example of Art Deco era Chinese export jewelry. The dragon motif is complex and features a great deal of details, adding to the overall effect of this item. Some of the details were added to this item using the chasing technique, which involves hand etching intricate details into solid metal. This gorgeous bracelet has a wearable length of 6.5 long, which means it hangs ever so slightly loose on the wrist while being worn, allowing the bracelet to move freely as the wrist moves. This lovely bracelet has a large wrist gap, allowing it to be applied and removed from the wrist easily and quickly. A stunning example of Chinese export jewelry from the Art Deco era, this bracelet would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection. Don’t miss your chance to own this piece of cultural history. Damage: Age appropriate wear. This item is fairly tarnished in the low relief areas, which is to be expected of an item this age, and adds to the character of the item. The price of this item has been reduced to reflect this. This listing is for the item only. The Art Deco era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Chinese export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian period and persisted until the 1960s. During this period, Chinese craftsmen were considered by far the best in the world. The rich and wealthy would custom-order a piece through their local jeweler, who would send the design off to China to be made and sent back to Europe. This lengthy process was very expensive, making Chinese export pieces highly desirable, then and now. Turquoise is found all over the world and has been a popular semi-precious stone used in jewelry and art for thousands of years by many different cultures; from prehistoric times to the present. Turquoise comes in many beautiful color variations; from the popular bright solid sky-blue hues to dark blue hues with dark spiderwebbing throughout, as well as aqua, teal, and many green varieties, and even some rare white with dark spiderwebbing. Chinese turquoise is considered a very valuable stone by the Chinese, second only to jade. In fact, Chinese Turquoise was often used to supplement or replace jade. Chinese turquoise was highly prized for its rarity and gorgeous, bright blue hues. Stones that exhibit a spiderweb matrix are quite rare and deeply coveted. Chasing is a metalworking technique that uses a nail-like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns onto a metal surface. This process creates a design that is sunk into the front of the surface using indentations, grooves, and channels. Chasing is thousands of years old and was a very difficult and time-consuming technique that is still used by metalsmiths today. This lengthy process was very expensive, making Chinese export pieces highly desirable, then and now. Chinese stone cutters were considered some of the finest artisans in the world. They would spend years learning to hand-carve many different types of stones, and excelled in creating finely detailed pieces other artisans couldnt even hope to compare to. Their skill was so refined that they could even carve delicate stones like coral and jade. Chinese stone cutters were so talented that Victorian era European socialites would commission pieces from them, preferring the hefty price tag that came with such high quality work to the ready availability of Western stonework. Chinese dragons appear everywhere in China in legends, festivals, astrology, art, and symbolism. Unlike the fire-breathing dragons of the west, Chinese dragons summon rain. They have long snake-like bodies with sharp hawk-like claws and are usually very detailed in art and jewelry. They are an important part of Chinese culture and symbolize power and benevolence, as well as good luck to those worthy of it. The Chinese dragon is one of the twelve Chinese zodiac signs; which is attributed to strength, dignity, and success. Repouss√© began as an ancient metalworking technique dating as far back as the 3rd century BC, involving malleable metal that was hammered onto the reverse side to create an image on the front. Examples are found all over the world; Greece, Egypt, and even the Hopewell periods in the American southeast. Reverse side hammering was also used to add detail to the front, creating intricate patterns using grooves, indentations, and channeling. The piece was then carefully polished to create a hollow, eye-catching treasure. Chasing is a metalworking technique that uses a nail-like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns onto a metal surface. This process creates a design that is sunk into the front of the surface using indentations, grooves, and channels. Chasing is thousands of years old and was very difficult and time-consuming technique that is still used by metalsmiths today.
