Large Dragon Charger with Sgrafitto Ground (GWC021607). 19th century Late Qing Dynasty Porcelain with overglaze famille verte enamels Diameter: 36.5 cm / 14.4 in From a San Diego, CA estate A large and impressive porcelain charger plate, made in the late Qing dynasty and bearing an iron-red Qianlong seal mark. Enameled in the famille verte palette, this piece is decorated with two sprawling dragons, bordered by a diaper-ground border divided by chrysanthemums. The most interesting feature is however the subtle but impressive background, which is entirely covered with white enamel and sgrafitto decorated with crashing waves.
