Sultan of Brunei Bronze Kettle Naga Dragon Labi Turtle Koi Crabs Chinese Borneo
BRUNEI CEREMONIAL BRONZE KETTLE WITH CHINESE SYMBOLS. Excellent and rare ceremonial kettle. This is a museum quality work of art. The kettle is decorated with symbols of a dragon, snakes, koi fish, crabs, and a turtle. This may have been used as a dowry item. It is the most detailed example I have seen. Even the underside is highly decorated suggesting ownership by an affluent family. There is Chinese influence within the symbols. The size is 5.5 x 11 x 8 inches. The condition is excellent with traces of oxidation and one small hole on the underside next to one of the feet. The hole is not visible in the picture because there is now a small hole where there used to be oxidation near one of the legs. The age is guaranteed to be mid 19th century or earlier. The oxidation suggests it might be earlier than 1850’s. This kettle is made of bronze or brass or some other copper mixed alloy. It is heavy and not zinc or spelter metal. There is a nice copper patina which I have not seen on other examples as well. Thank you for this opportunity to do business with you. ORNATELY CARVED ANTIQUE CHINESE JADE STATUE OF FIGURE With FISH DRAGONS CRABS 19C
This week Chamberlain Antiques is pleased to offer over 250+ lots of fine Asian antiques and works of art. Included in the sale is an impressive collection of Chinese porcelains, bronzes, jades, paintings, and other works of art. 99 with NO RESERVE. Thank you for looking and good luck!!! This listing is for a wonderful and ornate Chinese jade carving dating to the 19th century. The carving has a lot going on and depicts a figure standing above crashing waves wiht fish and sea shells below. By his side are two dragons along with a crab. He is shown holding a ring in his hand beside is head and carrying what looks like a spear in the other. Detail in the work is superb as can be seen in the photos. It stands 3.7 inches (9.5cm) tall and displays well. As can be see there is an area of loss in the upper right hand portion of the carving as well as a loss to the ribbon at the base of his arm. Still a wonderful and highly detailed example of Chinese jade from the Qing Dynasty. In addition, all questions must be asked at least 12 hours prior to a lot closing. This allows us time to inspect the item and take additional photos if needed. Many of the items we sell are well over 100 years old. Inherently, these items will have some minor or light wear. Any major flaws and damages ie. Chips or cracks will be clearly disclosed in the item description.
