Antique 19th c Chinese Dragon Carved Cinnabar Lacquer Domed Hinged Trinket Box
Beautiful 19th Century Carved Cinnabar Box. This box is intricately carved. The domed top depicts 2 dragons possibly fighting and. Are surrounded by floral. The four sides have a floral & leaf carved design. The bottom and interior are Black lacquered. Two brass hinges on the back and rim of the box are painted red to match the carvings. The box measures 3.75″ x 3.25″ x 2.0 to the dome top of the lid and weighs 5.1 ozs. There are no chips or cracks to the cinnabar. The bottom has minor chips to all four corners and is signed in one corner in red paint. Please view all the photos for more details. A stunning high quality Chinese export or China Straits solid silver tobacco box. It is hallmarked a mark to the lid and tests as high grade silver. I would date it to c1890. It has been superbly decorated being embossed to the lid with a dragon with a leaf design to the base. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs.
