ESTATE LOT ANTIQUE CHINESE CARVED STONE SOAPSTONE DRAGON SIGNED SCHOLARS SEALS. Hi, thank you for having a look at my auctions. Listed this week is the last and final session of this very fine and important estate collection. This is surely one of our Finest and Largest Asian art estate auctions to date. This sale offers a wide variety of examples spanning over several hundred years. The items listed are from an important Montreal estate collection. This collector was good friends with Alex Gurie of the famed Gurie Gallery of Montreal that specialized in Important Asian works of art. Gurie’s family owned an antique shop in Shanghai in the earlier 1900s period. During the fall of the Qing empire up to the cultural revolution period Gurie acquired a vast amount of important Chinese works of art with a main interest in Ming and pre Ming arts. The Imperial jade shop was located in the famous King Edward hotel located on King St in Toronto. The shop closed down for renovations in the year 1976 and the shop never reopened. I did not have time to list everything separately so I have made up over 70 estate treasure lots featuring over 500 individual items! I do wish everyone the very best of luck winning the auctions! I believe the pieces are mainly carved of soapstone. Some of the seals are also signed to the sides. The one seal has a natural rock look the one side appears to be broken off but I actually think it is originally made like this. The seals show small imperfections and wear but are overall in substantially fine condition for their age measuring from 4 5/8 inches to 1 1/8 inches tall. BEST OF LUCK WITH THE AUCTIONS!
