I was told that he is carved from jade. The varying shades of the jade have been carefully carved to display the pale green of the dragon, the dark, almost black green of his pearl of longevity with which he is dancing, and the medium greens of the water plants supporting and surrounding him. Carved in the round, he is 7-3/4 inches long, about 5 inches wide, and roughly 2 inches deep. The carving is very fine, with appropriate details and undercuts, much nicer than the carvings I have seen done in the present day. Unsigned, and I do not know the dynasty. I have had him displayed flat on a tabletop, but he could be hung, although he is much too large and heavy to be worn.
