Attic fresh offering , very unusual style Chinese Robe, nice antique heavy embroidered Chinese Robe, metal sequins and glass eye accents, Dragons, Foo dogs, Birds and Florals decorate the robe. Inside is like a rough cloth , metal sequins or discs sewn all over garment, glass eye accents to dragon and dogs. Silk in good condition. Good overall condition for age app. One former owner Id’d to be 1920s actress ANNETTE MARGULES born in Romania in 1905 , she played the role of TONDELEYO in the 1923 film WHITE CARGO. Auctions is pleased to offer for sale a rare and gorgeous antique Chinese Compound Cabinet. It is beautifully crafted from rose wood – one of the rarest and most sought after of hardwoods – and originates from Hebei Province in China, which was renowned for cabinets with ornate carved decoration made during the Qing dynasty. Chinese cabinets were functional objects as well as works of art and came in various shapes, sizes, forms, and designs to hold a variety of objects, often in pairs symbolizing double-happiness. When a small chest is stacked on top of a regular-sized cabinet – or when two units of equal or different sizes are stacked on top of each other – the combination is collectively known as a compound cabinet. This fine compound cabinet is. Square-cornered with four doors, and features intricately carved auspicious symbols, including the legendary Chinese dragon. It is a showcase example of Chinese furniture distinguished by the beauty of the material and the simplicity of form reduced to flowing smooth lines and simple, extremely well constructed joinery. The measurements are 59.5 inches in length by 19.25 inches deep by 104.5 inches in height (151.1 cm by 48.8 cm by 265.4). It is in very good used condition, with wear consistent to a dating to the late mid-19th century. Importantly, it is an intact, original piece. It has a fine provenance coming from an important U. The Art Deco Era is famous for being the “Gatsby” or “Roaring Twenties” Era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. During the Art Deco Period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. Chinese export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian Period and lasted until the 1960’s. In a lot of ways, Chinese export jewelry fashioned what we know of jewelry today. During these periods, Chinese craftsmen, including jewelers and stone cutters, were considered by far the best in the world. The wealthy would have a piece custom ordered through their local jeweler. They drafted a design which was then sent to China to be crafted and sent back. As you can imagine, this was not cheap, that being said, these pieces are very rare and few have survived until today. Repoussé began as an ancient metal working technique, involving malleable silver first formed with a specially created three-dimensional mold and then further refined by hammering from the reverse side and adding detail to the front. The finished work was intricate, with grooves, indentation and channeling. It was then carefully polished as an eye-catching treasure. The chasing technique is a very difficult silversmith process when the artist uses a nail like tool and hammer to hand etch patterns within the metal work.
