C e l es ti a l N o n e s u ch. A beautiful shallow low bowl, of red dragons on a yellow ground on top, around the outside perimeter green dragons chase flaming pearls against a green ground. On the bottom is a mark of Chenghua, surrounded in squares. This mark, with a mature calligraphic hand – in juxtaposition to the almost childlike seal of a true Chenghua seal – suggests a later date than that of the Ming emperor. It is certainly a mark put on in a later period to pay homage to the earlier reign. Possibly done in the Qing dynasty under the reign of Yongzheng, when the rumored red glaze which was associated with the reign of Chenghua was rediscovered and this type of mark was used honorifically. Presumably an Antique Qing dynasty piece, possibly dating to the Yongzheng reign, possibly a high quality piece dating to the late 19th through 20th century. A great object for study or display, this will make a nice addition to any student or appreciators collection of Chinese art and artifacts. Very good condition with no detectable repairs. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and weathering. As they are part of the description, please enlarge all photographs to better ascertain details and condition.
