There is a water snake scaled dragon swimming on the case. A place for a monogram has never been engraved. Slightly curved shape There is a mark which we can’t quite decipher with the word silver. If you feel it is Japanese we won’t argue, but seems more similar to the Chinese ones we’ve seen. Whichever country, we know for certain that it is fabulous. These are estate item and have the normal wear and patina that comes with use and age. They have not been recently polished. The pictures do have some reflections in them. Since these items were previously used and loved, there will be small scratches and signs of wear. We feel these characteristics are part of the history of these wonderful things and should not detract from the use of them today.
