Chinese Qing Dynasty Enameled Copper Plate With Five Claw Dragon China 19th C
Auctions is pleased to offer a gorgeous antique Chinese Qing Dynasty enameled copper Plate with a stunning five claw dragon motif. The plate is a particularly noteworthy example of late 19th century famille verte color enameling with a very striking chromatic palette of reds, yellows, green, turquoise blue and dark blue, all beautifully harmonized in decoration depicting the legendary Chinese dragon – specifically. The 5-claw dragon assigned to emperors during the Qing dynasty. At that time, enameling became known as JINGTAI LAN,’the blue of the Jingtai era’. The Jingtai emperor reigned during the Ming Dynasty. Initially, colors were limited with turquoise blue the most prominently used , mainly as a background. Enamel colors evolved over time, and as more shades. Its apogee in the late 18th century during the Qianlong reign when enameled coloring techniques for both porcelain and metal were developed to an unprecedented level of perfection. This superb plate is decorated with the legendary Chinese dragon. The Chinese dragon has been part of Chinese culture dating back to the fifth millennium. It represents power, strength, and wealth. Many emperors of China have used a dragon to represent royal powers and strength. During the Zhou Dynasty three different dragons were used: a five-clawed dragon to refer to heavens’ son, a four-clawed dragon to nobles, and a dragon with three claws to ministers. During the Qing Dynasty, the five-clawed dragon was assigned to the Emperor, while three and four-clawed dragons were accredited to commoners. It measures 0.75 inches in depth by 7.25 inches in diameter (1.9 cm by 18.4 cm). It shows wear consistent with the late 19th century or the Qing dynasty. It is very fine collector’s piece, and would make a welcome addition to any collection of Chinese antiques, art, porcelain or ceramics. Our goal is to bring the same experience and excitement of collecting that we have been delivering in-person to collectors across the globe at Primitive in Chicago. Every object we sell online has been carefully hand-selected with special attention to detail, quality, and significance. Chinese Garlic Neck Dragon Phoenix Relief Porcelain Vase Qianlong Mark 19th C
Chinese Garlic Neck Dragon Phoenix Relief Porcelain Vase Qianlong Mark 19th C. This is a Chinese porcelain garlic neck vase decorated in relief with a Dragon and Phoenix in clouds, over ocean waves. Interesting features include the Dragon’s eyes which are mounted on extendable shafts. Qianlong mark on the base – in our view probably 19th Century, however I’ve never seen another like it, so it could be earlier. About 7 1/4 tall. This is the only one like it I’ve seen – it could be from the Qianlong period, however I’m going to say 19th Century to be safe. No cracks or repairs, with minor losses here and there to some of the raised edges (see pictures). Specialists in Qing Dynasty Chinese Porcelain and later (Ming and early Qing) Chinese Bronzes.
