Antique Old Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Snuff BottleDRAGON & PHOENIX CARVED. Antique Old Chinese Porcelain Famille Rose Snuff bottle. The whole snuff bottle was made out of two layers. The outside layer was hollowed-out carved with a dragon and a phoenix flying among auspicious clouds. Also decorated with coiling dragon patterns at the brim of the mouth. The condition is very good. There’s a mark at the bottom indicating the age of the item. The superb craftmanship shows the Chinese world well-known artistic skills to a high level. The ancients believed that dragon was the symbol of the supreme auspiciousness, a bridge between man, Heaven and the Deities. They thought that the dragon was able to summon wind and rain, ascend to and descend from Heaven, and produce auspicious signs. The dragon even appeared in astronomy and numerology, and influenced the passing of the imperial power. In primitive times, the legendary phoenix was the God of Protection. It was graceful and noble. Its head was like that of a pheasant, and its body was like that of a mandarin duck. It had the wings of a roc, the legs of a crane, the beak of a parrot and the plumes of a peacock. Chief of all the birds, the phoenix was a symbol of auspiciousness, beauty and peace. Famille rose making uses both traditional craft and enamel technique, painting design with colors on white ground. The famille rose often has gentle luster with delicate changes. In Yongzheng period, the famille rose porcelain has the most beautiful color. In Qianglong reign, the color met the best shape. Then it became the mainstream of caici in the Qing dynasty.
