This fine antique vase has a spectacular scene of an imperial dragon sucking up the ocean and a. Kangxi era Artemisia leaf mark. During the early Qing dynasty, up until the early 1680’s conditions were unsettled in China and the existence of Imperial wares as well as the use of reign marks on porcelain was restricted in various ways. During this period a number of different marks came into use such as this leaf mark. The vase measures 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches and is in excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs. Look carefully at all the photos, they are an important part of the description. PLEASE SEE OUR NEW LISTING OF CHINESE ANTIQUES THIS WEEK! This is an exceptional antique Chinese silk embroidered dragon robe. Five clawed with nine dragons (for high rank, probably a noblewoman). In a scarce color, the ground is burgundy (looks redder in picture). The dragons are in couched gold threads. Finely embroidered with great detail. Made in the Guangxu Period, late 19th/early 20th century. Condition, on the purple border near the neck there are a few small areas of separtion to the purple silk (the longest is only 2 inches), slightest fading, needs a loop for gold ball at neck, edge of neck border with slightest wear. It is actually in good condition aside from these minor things. Length 53 1/2 inches, width at bottom 36 inches.
