The colors on this robe are still bright and beautiful. There are some worn spots and loose threads but the integrity of this robe is very good. Blue was the Qing dynasty’s official color and was worn by minor princes or noblemen. This robe has nine (9) dragons. Medium- ranking officials wore robes with eight (8) four-clawed dragons, but at court, high-ranking officials’ robes featured a ninth (9) dragon, hidden inside a front flap. I was given this robe about 50 years ago by the lady that was the director of the “Feast of Lanterns” in Pacific Grove, Calif. It has wonderful memories but just sits in a box. ANTIQUE IMPERIAL CHINESE BLUE SILK BROCADE KESI DRAGON ROBE MANGPAO QING 19TH C. We are pleased to offer a fine antique Imperial Chinese blue and gold silk brocade kesi dragon robe, made in the late Qing Dynasty, 19th century. Dimensions: Length: 49″, Bottom Width: 43″, Width across shoulders (cuff to cuff): 66. Magnificent Imperial blue ground dragon robe made for the Emperor or member of the Imperial family. Featuring nine gold Imperial five clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl among clouds, and interspersed with the eight “Auspicious Symbols” , along with colorful bats, cranes, and shou medallions, above a gold swirling wave border. The black ground collar and horse shoe cuffs also with gold five claw dragons, Buddhist symbols and gold wave border. The round buttons are solid (low grade) gold. Acquired from an estate collection and offered in excellent overall condition with a small section of loose gold threads along shoulder fold line, and a small losses on the small collar at the shoulder fold line, and missing one gold ball button. Finely worked in couched gold threads and satin stitch on the front and back with five-clawed dragons, shou characters, bats, cranes and Daoist emblems, interior lined with blue silk. 80″ across X 54″ long. 19th to early 20th century. This dragon robe is the most well kept robe I’ve ever seen, excellent condition with no damages. It’s been stored away for a long time and this is first time offered in the public. Kesi or Kossu is a very unique weave that takes months to years to produce a single robe. The style of the robe shows ming dragons with many lovely colors. The size of the robe is…..
