The jardiniere is quite large and has a lobed oval shape. There are two large dragons chasing a flaming pearl on each side of the jard. The dragons’ tails nearly meet on the sides of the jardiniere. The background color is black enamel with gold wire cloisonne clouds. The dragons fly over waves of water which are shown at the base. The cloisonne design has fine details and is finished in colors of. Black, yellow, green, blue, white, pink, rose and gold. There is a wide metal border at the top of the jard and on the base. There are four lobes on the jard separated by a bit of metal. The bottom and inside of the jardiniere are finished in blue enamel. The jardiniere is unmarked but perhaps Republic period. Dragons are greatly admired in Chinese culture for their power and strength. But they are a little greedy so they are often depicted in art as chasing a flaming pearl. They never catch it. The dragons on the jardiniere are very beautiful in colors of yellow, green, red, blue, gold and black. The details on the four dragons are excellent. The elegant stand displays the jardiniere beautifully and is a work of art itself. The stand is heavy & very thick with three legs in “the front” and two legs in “the back” for support. The old stand is carved with “CHINA” and two chinese characters on the underneath. There are remnants of an old label on the bottom. The jard is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, dents, repairs or damage. The inside of the jard has slight old discoloration which could possibly be cleaned. I always use a saucer if I display plants in the jard. There could be minor surface scratches as expected from usage. There could be a very little enamel loss and pitting on the outside as common with older cloisonne. The gold metal has some scratches and a little tarnish. There is overall normal wear as expected from the age. The stand has some surface scratches and scuffs. There are a few tiny spots of white paint on one side of the stand that could probably be removed. The stand has a lovely aged look to it and is a great addition to a collection of Asian antiques. There is a slight nick on the edge of the stand in the front rim of the display area which could be darkened to conceal it. The stand has no chips, cracks, repairs or damage. This beautiful old Chinese lobed oval dragon cloisonné jardiniere & stand are in wonderful condition. Both are superb works of Chinese art and quite difficult to find.
