CHINESE EXPORT SILVER DRAGON GOBLET c1890 SIGNED (3-6) A beautifully crafted late 19th century Chinese export silver dragons battling for sacred pearl wine goblet. The shallow circular bowl with richly detailed applied four claw Chinese dragons battling for the sacred pearl, here in raised orb form. Their bodies comprised of diamond or facet cut scales which shimmer in the natural light. Upper rim and base edge with hand engraved floating flower head on tiny pebbled borders. The base with third dragon, lacking the pearl this dragons encircles the stem, chasing its own tail. This late 19th century Chinese export silver battling dragons goblet is 5 inches tall. And weighs bit over 3 standard ounces. Signed in a very long series of Chinese characters. Rich silver patina throughout. Base bit uneven, strengthened where bowl attached to stem. This wonderful Chinese cigarette case is made of sterling silver and has a chasing dragon design to the front. This fine quality case has maker’s hallmarks to the inside and the original cigarette retainer clips. It has not been monogrammed but there is a vacant central cartouche that could be monogrammed if you wanted. The case is a wonderful curved shape that fits in the pocket nicely and makes it a nice tactile item. A wonderful and decorative piece of Chinese silver that looks great on display and is a good usable item. Would make a wonderful gift. Hallmarks: Maker’s marks and Sterling to the inside. Origin: Probably Hong Kong. Height – 11.5 cm (4 1/2) approx. Width – 9.5 cm (3 3/4) approx. Depth – 1 cm (1/2) approx. Weight: 148 grams approx. Chinese Export Silver and Mother-of-Pearl Dragon Centrepiece. Mark of YL attributed to Yung Lei of Shanghai, and with Chinese character mark Shang (Value), Circa 1905. Formed as a section of leafy bamboo supporting a piece of mother-of-pearl applied with a silver dragon and sun device, the silver base chased with foliage and with plants and stork fittings, on a carved and ebonised stand. 15.5 inches high (39.25 cm), 10.75 inches wide (27.5 cm), base diameter 6.25 inches (16 cm), weight 1.26 kg. Original fitted wood box with sliding front. Acquired by William Jones, a textile trader and my great grandfather who was based in China between 1902 and 1905. His privately published memoir Gatney sees the World (1935) mentions pearl shells like the one in the drawing room cabinet. Antique Chinese Zhou Dynasty Gold & Silver Inlaid Archaic Bronze Chariot Fitting

Gold & Silver Inlaid Chariot Ornament. The piece is finely cast and inlaid with precious metals and dates from a renaissance period in the history of Chinese art and archaeology, from the Eastern Zhou Dynasty to the Warring States Period. Inlaid examples such as this, where the subject matter depicts a mythical creature like a tiger or dragon, are particularly highly sought-after. This type of piece represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and ornamentation in early Chinese art and warfare. The ornament measures approximately 12.2 cm long and is in good stable condition consistent with an item that was previously buried and is over 2000 years old. Much of the gold inlay is missing, but a significant amount of silver inlay is still intact. Surface corrosion is also present along with a small puncture to the top of the ornament. The ornament is comparable to some recent fittings offered at Sotheby’s and Christie’s from major collections, like those of Stephen Junkunc. Overall, a very fine and rare example. The fitting comes to us from the collection of a very prominent investment family and founder of one of the first mutual funds. Qing Court Dragon Robe. Such a robe would’ve been worn by an official or noble from the Jiaqing to Guangxu Periods. The robe is made of fine silk and embroidered in actual gold and silver wrapped thread – see image 11. The robe is in good condition considering it is around 150 years old. It has wear commensurate with age, including loose, fraying, and torn threads, discoloration and staining, etc. Original buttons are present. The robe would have originally had sleeve extensions and cuffs. Do not expect it to be perfect – this is an actual period robe. That said, it is in very nice condition. Display stand not included. CHINESE EXPORT SILVER BOX c1875 DRAGONS IN WAVES – BREATHING FIRE A very fine, hand crafted c1875 (possibly earlier) Chinese export silver battling dragons in waves scholar’s box. Classic rectangular shape, with well hinged cover. The cover with dragons battling for the sacred pearl. Here the pearl is fiery orb design, not often seen. The dragons are rising from rolling waves. One breathing fire at a small fish below – an even more unique design feature. Framed in rolling leafy vine and chrysanthemum flower head border work. The sides and back panel with conforming dragon, and pear decoration, and rolling cloud border. The interior is solid silver, there are no wood panels or wood base, as found in lesser, later period boxes. This fine c1875 Chinese export silver dragon box is 7 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches. And it weighs 27 standard ounces. The box is 100% silver construction, there is no wood interior as found on many. Hallmarked in series of characters. In very fine condition.
