Rare, outstanding Sui-Tang Chinese silvered bronze mirror with dragons, figures, and characters. This beautiful, rare, silvered bronze of the Sui dynasty or early Tang. Came from an old collection in Japan. I bought it from an antique shop on mt. Koya, which bought a whole private collection from Kyoto. There are 5 circles around the central knob maybe the 5. Elements, and then the mirror is divided into an inner cruciform. That I believe is representing the 4 cardinal directions. There are two wonderful ferocious beasts, which represent dragons in two of the main registers. There are two different figures in the other two registers, which may. Represent shamans or priests due to the elaborate headdress. There are 4 other small knobs lined with birds and winged. Creatures, all are surrounded by a circle with ancient seal. The inner knob has a graphic pattern circle surrounding it. The patina is deep, in various tones of red and green, running into the silver coating, less so at the adorned front, deeper and wider at the back. The condition is very good. Size: 17.5×17.5 cm.
