Up for sale is a stunning Bronze Dragon Mirror from the Tang Dynasty. The mirror is crisply cast in relief featuring a rare pattern of intertwined dragons, inner and outer rows of eight each, on a geometric patterned ground around the central suspension knot. Dragon mirrors are the most desirable patterns, and patterns that are not often seen, such as this, are even more desirable. Below are links to mirrors of similar and/or subject matter. The mirror has a built-up encrusted patina which varies in color from green to red and orange to black. Upon close inspection one can see that the patina is actually crystal growth, mostly malachite, with a small section of blue azurite. On the back of the mirror an area of textile impression can be seen in the patina – a sign of a genuine mirror as these were often wrapped for burial.
