According the ancient Chinese mythology, the universe is divided into four quadrants, each representing a season: spring, summer, autumn and winter. The seasons are divided from each other by the winter and summer solstices, and the autumn and spring equinoxes. These heavenly quadrants are known as the “Four Celestial Palaces”, with each palace protected and represented by a guardian animal with a corresponding color, element, and virtue. Yin and Yang represent male and female, as well as completion, perfection and balance! The dragon is considered to be the symbol of ultimate power. Although fearsome and frightening, the dragon is also benevolent, just, and the bringer of wealth and good fortune. The dragon’s color is blue, its direction is east, and its element is air, represented by the clouds in which the dragon flies. It represents spring, wood, and propriety. The tiger is the king of all animals and the lord of the mountains. The tiger’s color is white, its direction is west, and its element is land, as represented by the mountains in which the tiger prowls. The tiger is also believed to be the bringer of wealth and a symbol of a good marriage. The tiger protects the Celestial Palace of autumn, representing metal, and is said to be a fierce protector, with the power to exorcise evil spirits and grant a good harvest. The auspicious phoenix’s appearance is a harbinger of times of good fortune. This mythical bird is symbolic of resurrection and immortality, and is believed to bring happiness and knowledge to people. The phoenix’s color is red, its direction is south, and its element fire, as depicted by the flames in which it is consume and then reborn. The tortoise symbolizes longevity, wisdom, knowledge, and fecundity of reproduction. The ancient Chinese believed there were no male tortoises, and so the females were forced to mate with snakes. As a result, the tortoise is commonly portrayed in an embrace with a snake (as on this coin). The tortoise’s color is black, its direction is north, and its element water, as represented by the waves in which it swims. The tortoise is considered to be the god of all the world’s oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. Please see the presentation lower on this page for more information about Tuvalu and its association with Australia. This pure silver coin features the most powerful and auspicious of all the animals in the Chinese Lunar Zodiacthe Dragon and the Tiger the Phoenix and the Turtle aren’t exactly chopped liver, either! With its detailed and well-executed full color design, high relief, precious metal content, auspicious theme and low mintage limit. , we expected this gem to sell out quicklyAND SO IT DID! Don’t delay, get this beauty today! What is a Piedfort? Popular with collectors for more than a century, and always hard to find, piedforts are highly sought after. We get asked all the time, What is a piedfort? ” There are two different, but related, stories of the origin of the word “piedfort. The first says that it literally means “strong foot” in French from. The second says this word was appropriated by the mint centuries ago to mean “heavy measure” or “heavy weight”. In both cases, the sense of serious heft to the coin is obvious. Often the word “piedfort” is translated as “double-thick”, but this is neither a literal translation nor a precisely accurate definition. Numismatically speaking, any coin that is 50% or more thicker than a standard version qualifies as a piedfort, although some piedforts are, indeed, twice as thick as normal. Finally, the age-old question, How is the word pronounced? ” Coming from French, it is not pronounced as it is spelled; that is, don’t say, “pide – fort. Rather, “pee – ay – four” (three syllables) is a good approximation. The obverse of this five full troy ounce pure silver antiqued coin portrays the four ancient Chinese mythical creatures full color and in ultra high, medallic relief, with the Yin and Yang symbol in the center. The legend CHINESE ANCIENT MYTHICAL CREATURES defines the theme. The reverse features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in crowned profile facing right. This portrait, featuring Her Majesty wearing a tiara and pearl earrings, was executed by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II, the date and the denomination also appear. The legend 5 OZ 9999 SILVER guarantees the weight and purity. The coin is housed inside a handsome taupe leatherette, clamshell-style presentation case, lined with black velvet and satin, and protected by a full-color outer box. An individually-numbered certificate of authenticity is included. Perth Mint of Australia. Antiqued with Ultra High Relief and Full Color. 9999 Fine (Pure) Silver. Ing Ing Jong (obverse) Ian Rank-Broadley (reverse). The Island Nation of Tuvalu. Its nearest neighbors are Kiribati, Samoa and Fiji. It is comprised of four reef islands and five true atolls. Its population of 11,992 makes it the third-least populated independent country in the world, with only Vatican City and Nauru having fewer inhabitants. It is also the second-smallest member by population of the United Nations. In terms of physical land size, at just 10 square miles Tuvalu is the fourth smallest country in the world, larger only than the Vatican City, Monaco and Nauru. The first inhabitants of Tuvalu were Polynesian people, who arrived about 3000 years go. The islands came under Great Britain’s sphere of influence in the late 19th century. The Ellice Islands were administered by Britain as part of a protectorate from 1892 to 1916 and as part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony from 1916 to 1974. In 1974 the Ellice Islanders voted for separate British dependency status as Tuvalu, separating from the Gilbert Islands which became Kiribati upon independence. Tuvalu became fully independent within The Commonwealth in 1978. With Queen Elizabeth II as titular head of state. Because Tuvalu has few natural resources it has been dependent in recent years upon aid from larger, more developed nations, including Australia, New Zealand and the United States. The Perth Mint of Australia is officially commissioned by the government of Tuvalu to produce legal tender coinage for the island nation. Antique Lidded Jar China 1900 Dragon in clouds Chinese porcelain Qing Dy
Antique Collectibles from ShangriLa. 3500 “Make us an offer” Listings/. Antique Lidded Jar China 1900 Dragon in clouds Chinese porcelain Qing Dynasty. A very nicely decorated jar. The lid has an red mark on the inside rim. Seal mark in top lid and Faded seal mark on the base. The dragon is the mightiest of creatures, master of rain and water and usually good-natured. It has a prestigious place in the astrological years and serves as a symbol principally of the Emperor and therefore the top of the pyramid of animals. When shown with a phoenix it represents Emperor and Empress – the foremost married couple; with a phoenix the two together represent animals and birds and so wildlife in general. Ancient belief ties the dragon to the bringing of life-giving rain in the form of master of the storm clouds. In appearance it is more serpent-like than the Western version and is usually portrayed among the clouds. Chinasage: All about China. Retrieved from the Chinasage website. Clouds are considered lucky and so feature heavily in Chinese pictures and symbolism. This is most likely down to the obvious connection that clouds bring the much needed rain to water the crops. Dragons are often shown playing in the clouds as dragons are the masters of water and rain. A picture of bats flying among clouds is a wish for good fortune. Clouds of five colors represent the five blessings of life. Clouds are considered the union of yin and yang because they are a fusion of the elements of water and air, sky and earth. From this idea clouds can symbolize making love as the union of male and female. / / Overall Condition Perfect, no damages found. 106mm diameter bowl, 109mm diameter lid. 20th century PRoC (1949 – now). RARE Pringle of Scotland REVERSIBLE Traditional Chinese Military Dragon Jacket
I have been collecting clothing for some 50 years now, yet I have to say that this is one of the most exquisite jackets I’ve come across in my now many years. Simply put, I’ve never seen anything like this. The detail that went into creating the design of this sweater, the time it must have taken – it seems almost implausible – and today, I would venture to say that sweaters as such are extinct. Name a brand these days, that will go through the effort of painstakingly etching what is a complex design (not only on the outside, but also the INSIDE) by hand? This is beyond a doubt the only of its kind in existence. There are a few other models out there designed by Pringle for Shannon Free Airport Ireland, but none of these Scottish made sweaters. Or jackets are on a level remotely close to the model seen above. This is a special edition piece, of which a VERY finite amount were made. This jacket is Scottish made. The exterior has a military, Olive Green complexion – and a silky, slightly textured fabric. Think those running pants that make a slick, slick sound when one leg brushed up against the other. Its is very militaryesque, as was the designers intention. This is a throw on jacket – no fasteners, no buttons, the lapels just simply meet. I find the design to be absolutely one of a kind. There are placeholders for buttons, but no buttons themselves. Take the lapels for example – there are slots in which buttons would be pushed through on BOTH sides, whereas on your normal jacket – you would have one lapel with slots for buttons, the other bearing the buttons themselves. This is a no button ensemble, with a myriad of button push throughs. Never seen anything of the like! The no button and large visible seam aesthetic was likely done to give this jacket a rugged feel. Theyve accomplished this rugged aesthetic beautifully. While the exterior of the coat is thin, the interior is THICK – this could has a lot more weight to it than it might seem. The real element of design at the exterior comes at the back. The back of this jacket is absolutely otherworldly… What always catches the eye first is the large dragon dead center. LOOK AT THE INTRICACY OF THE DRAGON ITSELF. This can be described as nothing less than a work of embroidery art, that happens to be on a jacket. Note the hundreds of perfectly defined scales, the face, the body, the claws… Just above the dragon are four, beautifully clean and crisp Chinese characters. The dragon is a high vibrancy orange, which radiates BRILLIANTLY from an Olive Green background. Of course, this jacket does not set out to keep the outside interesting and leave the interior plain. This is a REVERSIBLE piece. Never before have a seen such a crazy contrast of designs on a reversible jacket. The inside is padded – and has the feeling of a soft towel. It is textured (think beach towel) and covers the spectrum in terms of color! The colors at the interior (in contrast to the monotone military olive green at the front) are light high contrasting high vibrancy hues! The colors are deep, and have not washed out over time – not surprising, as this jacket has never met the wash (or dryer). The interior is composed of blue, white, yellow, green, and orange. It resembles the sky and clouds – and has a Tie Dye sort of pattern. At the back of the interior, the bold font ARMY phrase – above that ARMY insignia, 4 orange high color Chinese symbols – floating in the sky. I cannot adequately summarize in words how comfortable of a wear this piece is. And appreciate all of this. It drapes over a layered outfit with finite ease. It is also aerated at the armpits (see above photos) which means that there is airflow throughout the piece at all times, but not so much that you will find yourself cold. Why would someone go through all of that effort when it comes something traditionally hidden on the piece? Why go with a reversible, when the front exterior is something in and of itself to satisfy? Well, because this isn’t Gucci, this isn’t Armani, this isn’t a mega company who is totally profit driven – this is the work of an artist who creates to connect on a personal level. This is someone who loves what they do, and wants you to love what they do too. This piece is in beautiful condition. As noted in the description, the former owner hardly wore it. This piece was a gift – and overlooked for many years. There are a few holes you will see at the exterior – these holes are INTENTIONAL. This is an Army themed jacket, made to look rugged/distressed – hence the few (well placed, and effective) small holes. Those holes (be design) do not carry over into the interior of the jacket lining. You will also see some variation in hue at the exterior, some lighter spots. Again, this is in keeping with the distressed theme. Distressed, intentionally and wonderfully so! Again, this is a piece that does not exist beyond this listing. I LOVE the vintage 90s Traditional Chinese Aesthetic at the frontpaired with that otherworldly interior. Looks aside, however, this is quite possibly the most quality build jacket I’ve seen at my now old age. I will get back to you promptly. 52 Inch Chest (26 Inch Pit to Pit). 27.5 Inch Helm (keep in mind the helm is open). 33 Inch Length (shoulder to helm). 22.5 Inches Shoulder to Shoulder. Phoenix Bird in Chinese Mythology(Ref:WIKIPEDIA). Fenghuang (Chinese: ; pinyin: fènghuáng) are mythological birds found in Sinospheric mythology that reign over all other birds. It is known under similar names from various languages (Vietnamese: Phng hoàng or Phng hoàng; Japanese: H- or Hou-ou or Ho-Oh; Korean: Bonghwang). The males were originally called feng and the females huang but such a distinction of gender is often no longer made and they are blurred into a single feminine entity so that the bird can be paired with the Chinese dragon, which is traditionally deemed male. The fenghuang’s body symbolizes the celestial bodies: the head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets. The fenghuang is said to have originated in the sun. Its body contains the five fundamental colors: black, white, red, yellow, and green. [2] It sometimes carries scrolls or a box with sacred books. [2] It is sometimes depicted with a fireball. It is believed that the bird only appears in areas or places that are blessed with utmost peace and prosperity or happiness. Some believe they may have been a good-luck totem among eastern tribes of ancient China. During the Han dynasty (2,200 years ago) two phoenixes, one a male (feng,) and the other a female (huang,) were often shown together facing one other. Later, during the Yuan dynasty the two terms were merged to become fenghuang, but the “King of Birds” came to symbolize the empress when paired with a dragon representing the emperor. If a phoenix was used to decorate a house it symbolized that loyalty and honesty were in the people that lived there. Or alternatively, a phoenix only stays when the ruler is without darkness and corruption. Meaning A fenghuang on the roof of Longshan Temple in Taipei Drawing of a Fum Hoam (fenghuang) by a Dutch man, circa 1664. The fenghuang has very positive connotations. It is a symbol of high virtue and grace. The fenghuang also symbolizes the union of yin and yang. The first chapter of the Classic of Mountains and Seas , the “Nanshang-jing”, records each part of fenghuang’s body symbolizing a word. The head represents virtue , the wing represents duty , the back represents propriety , the abdomen says credibility and the chest represents mercy Portrait of an empress, possibly Empress Xiaoxianchun, (wife of the Qianlong Emperor) sitting on a chair decorated with Phoenix In ancient and modern Chinese culture, they can often be found in the decorations for weddings or royalty, along with dragons. This is because the Chinese considered the dragon-and-phoenix design symbolic of blissful relations between husband and wife, another common yang and yin metaphor. In some traditions it appears in good times but hides during times of trouble, while in other traditions it appears only to mark the beginning of a new era. In China and Japan it was a symbol of the imperial house, and it represented fire, the sun, justice, obedience, and fidelity. What is the Dark Side and Light side of the rug? We take photos from both ends of the rug. Dark and light side! What we mean by this is that every hand knotted Oriental rug has a “light” side and a “dark” side. The color entirely depends on how you view the rugs nape. The shade intensity from one end of the rug may be very different from what you see on the opposite end this depends on whether one looks directly into the nape or with the nape. Handmade rugs have a consistency and a shine, which may affect the rugs color. The colors of a rug will appear either several shades lighter or darker depending on where the viewer is standing in relation to the rug.
