Qing Antique CHINESE CARVED DRAGON Green Celadon JADE Belt hook Magnifying Glass
RARE CHINESE CARVED DRAGON GARMENT/BELT HOOK Magnifying Glass. This 7-1/2″ long total, but the jade handle is 3-1/2″ long by 3/4 wide. (not small at all, good size handle/hook). The stone is natural Jade, it is so light Green it is probably considered nephrite but some might believe it is light celadon green. I pictured it on several different color backgrounds- on white it looked white, but with the brown and green backgrounds you can see it looks a little more like light green. This piece is chinese but not marked from what I can see, it appears to be from the Qing Dynasty later 18th-19th century in age from the style o the Chilong Dragon. Note the hard smooth luster and the age “patina” in the face carvings. Looks like it was a belt/garment hook that was turned into a Magnifying Glass. The metal around the Magnifier is old and has a dark patina, not sure if it is silver or bronze due to the color. Looks like a mix perhaps in areas. Bamboo detailing around the glass. CONDITION: The Jade looks good, a few tiny mis-cuts/marks made by the carver but with great smoothness and design. It does not have any chips or cracks or damages though that I can see, the dragons face looks good and complete. The MAGNIFYING GLASS IS CHIPPED as you can see in the last photos, it is firmly intact inside the frame but has lots of little knicks and chips as you can see. (these magnifying glasses are often 100-200 years old so they often have chips these days and are rare to find). You can also see what looks like an old repair in the metal connecting the glass to the handle where the metal looks more gold in color. The prize here is the Jade handle (belt/garment hook) and so I priced it as if it were the belt hook only considering the damage to the metal/glass parts. This is for 2 reasons- I provide photos of the exact items and not stock pictures so you can always see the exact item you will get. All of my items are insured against damage in transit, I pay extra for this!
