This is an antique Chinese court robe from a local estate. We know very little about textiles, but believe that it dates from the 1800’s for a high-ranking member of the Imperial court. It is made entirely of hand sewn silk. It features wonderful hand stitched decoration, including floating Dragons among Clouds, flying Bats, and water Waves (see images). It has been in storage for many years, and has never been mounted or restored for display. It looks nice with strong color overall. There are MANY expected scattered signs of age, edge wear, small tears, loose stitching, missing buttons (one jeweled original button is present). Very rare antique Chinese late Qing Dynasty silk embroidered formal court dragon robe (Chao-Fu). Featuring 9 larger golden 5-claw dragons with clouds, bats, and Taoist treasure symbols, and numerous smaller dragons. Attached with a paper note handwritten with the Chinese characters for “Blue satin court dragon robe”. Ndition: Very good overall, wear and damage from age, a few holes and tears. Measurements: Cuff to cuff 258cm, collar to hem 154cm, armpit to armpit 81cm. Dating from 19th century. Antique condition with signs of general wear commensurate with a robe that has been worn handled and displayed for over 100 years. Areas of wear maintly under the arms and usual seperation to parts of kesi weave here and there. SIZE 103 cm long. All non paying buyers are then permanently blocked from all our future auctions. Antique Chinese Woven Silk Brocade Dragon Court Robe Jifu 9 Dragons 5 Toed 19th Century. The silk is of very fine quality and has been woven with Nine 5-Toed Dragons chasing the Flaming Pearl among clouds and other scattered symbols. Dating from the late 19th Century. This robe is in a large impressive size, measuring 55 long and displays beautifully. Exceptional antique condition with minimal signs of wear for a robe that has been worn and displayed for over 100 years. A few minor thread pulls, one stain on inside silk and some evidence of wear at inside cuffs of sleeves. No torn or repaired seams. It has been well preserved!
