This fine antique vase has a spectacular scene of an imperial dragon sucking up the ocean and a. Kangxi era Artemisia leaf mark. During the early Qing dynasty, up until the early 1680’s conditions were unsettled in China and the existence of Imperial wares as well as the use of reign marks on porcelain was restricted in various ways. During this period a number of different marks came into use such as this leaf mark. The vase measures 4 3/4 by 4 3/4 inches and is in excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs. We had the good fortune to acquire this magnificent 19th century Chinese Imperial Court Five Toed Kesi Dragon Robe constructed of blue silk brocade with colored silk and gold thread. This robe would have been hand woven for a member of the Chinese Court. If this blue is deemed to be “Imperial Blue” then the robe would have been made for the Emperor or member of the Imperial family. Bottom Width: 34″, Width across shoulders (cuff to cuff): 67″. Featuring gold Imperial five clawed dragons chasing a flaming pearl among clouds, and interspersed with Buddhist “Auspicious Symbols”, along with colorful cranes, shou medallions and other symbols, above a gold swirling wave border.
