ANTIQUE CHINESE QING IMPERIAL COURT DRAGON ROBE SILK. This is a very rare Qing imperial and fantastic embroidered detail to both sides. Measuring from top 30 long. This piece is in all original condition. As to be expected age related wear and marks in places. Slight fraying to ends of sleeves in places. Some of the stitching to top embroidered piece around neck line is loose. There is fading in places – lining and end of the sleeves. All as evidenced in the pictures. Single thread Silk Satin Floss all over embroidery Masterfully embroidered and a PERFECT work of art! Done by a true Master! Rare Museum Quality Piece Color looks to be natural dyes and no aniline dyes and because of this I believe this is an older robe — from the 1850s Difficult to photograph because the woven gauze is over a cotton or linen lining (the lining is indigo light blue) CONDITION: by my estimations this robe is 170+ years old the silk is soft and pliable. No rot or decay coloring is mellow natural dyes this was PRE OWNED and WORN for the Court very light soiling no stains and no dye bleed the collar has some of the weaving coming apart as seen in picture 11 but no missing fabric or threads a few loose threads. 1 tiny mite bite seen in photo 12 about the size of the tip of a pencil no buttons and pulls over the top this is STILL Wearable! In general my pictures reflect and try to reproduce everything, including color, as accurately as possible. China robe, Qing Dynasty, approx. 18th to early 19th C. A very rare ceremonial outer garment of a high official, as it holds five clawed dragons. It is entirely and very elaborately woven in real gold gilt threads on large dragons above ocean waves and rocks, in the chest area. On the shoulders likewise, and smaller renditions on the seams of the short sleeves. The dominant pattern consists of colourful clouds, which have the form of ruyi heads of the dignity sceptre. Fluttering between them are bats; as well as flowers and objects from the Babao (the “eight precious things”). On the back, the depiction is the same as on the front. Original blue silk lining on the inside. Original set of 4 buttons has no damage, this high quality and expensive stone with gold gilt buttons are the first time I have ever seem on a robe. Please note apparently this beautiful robe was stole by a person named Shawn Mei located at 15164 Dedeaux Rd, Gulfport, MS 39503. And that will be the place to pick it up if you want this robe. Qing Court Dragon Robe. Such a robe would’ve been worn by an official or noble from the Jiaqing to Guangxu Periods. The robe is made of fine silk and embroidered in actual gold and silver wrapped thread – see image 11. The robe is in good condition considering it is around 150 years old. It has wear commensurate with age, including loose, fraying, and torn threads, discoloration and staining, etc. Original buttons are present. The robe would have originally had sleeve extensions and cuffs. Do not expect it to be perfect – this is an actual period robe. That said, it is in very nice condition. Display stand not included.
