ANTIQUE 19thC CHINESE EXPORT SOLID SILVER DRAGON JARDINIERE, WANG HING c. 1890

Antique late-19th Century Chinese large solid silver jardiniere, of oval form, applied with unusual twin dragon head handles with rings in mouth and standing on four coiled dragon feet, shaped top rim and sides decorated with pierced dragons amongst clouds, the front with a round vacant cartouche. Wang Hing was the trading name chosen by the Lo family who established the business and passed it down for generations until 1941. Although we don’t have any information about the founder of the company, we know that the Lo family was a wealthy merchant family living in one of the richest and buzzing areas of Canton, the district of Xiguan. Thanks to the fine quality of the pieces and to the entrepreneurial abilities of the family members, the reputation of the firm grew and in 1920s Lo Hung Tong, grandson of the founder, opened a shop at 10 Queens Road, Hong Kong and in Shanghai. Wang Hing artworks became very popular among Western clients, who often commissioned trophies and presentation pieces decorated with the traditional Chinese motifs such as dragons, bamboo leaves and prunus blossoms. A beautiful rare antique Chinese export silver card case. It is hallmarked with a Chinese character, the 85 standard mark, and makers mark HO, I would date this piece to c1890. It has been superbly made being embossed with a dragon on one side bamboo on the other. It is in superb condition being free from splits holes and repairs, the lid fits tightly, the are initials to the cartouche. 1930’s Chinese Silver (tested silver with acid silver test) & Purple Peking Glass Bowl with Dragon Marked. It is 2.4 inches (6 cm) tall by 4.1 inches (10.5 cm) wide. The silver bowl is 58.78 gram. Total weight is 252 gram measured with glass bowl. It has tarnished silver and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos). How we pack your item is at our discretion.
