Antique circa 1900 Chinese embroidered silk table cover or runner with matching vignettes “readable” from each side. This wonderful, 18 x 71-inch antique runner is finely embroidered with five-toed dragons chasing flaming pearls, a diversity of traditional Chinese auspicious symbols including Wan and Shou symbols in couched metallic threads, fish, various vessels, canopies, clouds, rocks, waves and diagonal lines at each end representing deep water. The embroidery is meticulously rendered on an unusual, open-weave blue silk with a black silk border and blue cotton backing and is in very good to excellent antique condition with some seam-detachment along the border and an area of spots as seen in the listing photos.
